AusSMC Chair appointed Australia Day Ambassador

The Australia Day Council has appointed AusSMC Chairman, Peter Yates AM, to be an Australia Day Ambassador for the 2024 Celebrations to be held on 26 January, 2024.

Australia Day Ambassadors  are past recipients of the Australian of the Year Awards, and include sportspeople, scientists, businesspeople, actors and community workers who bring inspiration to a range of activities on Australia Day and beyond. There are currently more than 300 Australia Day Ambassadors.

AS well as chairing the Australian Science Media Centre and the Royal Institution of Australia, Peter is well known from his time as Executive Director at Macquarie Bank, CEO of PBL, then Deputy Chairman of the Myer Family Investments, and now as a board member of Linfox Australia and Chairman of AIA Australia.

He has also chaired the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation, The Faculty of Business and Economics at Melbourne University, the Shared Value Project and the ARC centre for Quantum Computing at UNSW and the CPI at ANU’s John Curtin School.

Peter will attend the Australia Day Celebration in his home town of Anglesea on the Victorian Surf Coast where he has lived permanently since 2019 and visited regularly since 1993.
